Once the insulation is secured and heat is applied with a hairdryer the film will shrink to be crystal clear, tight, and wrinkle-free. Installation is easy but may require a ladder and a partner. “It’s a budget buy, but it’s effective,” Domniguez says. It comes with two 62 x 210-inch plastic sheets with 168 feet of double-sided mounting tape, which is enough to cover two picture windows or 10 separate windows without fear of running out.ĭespite fitting larger windows, the kit is still available at an affordable price. The Frost King Extra Large Window Insulation Kit is the best window insulation kit if you’re needing to insulate two large picture windows or if you have multiple small windows. It tears easily, cannot be reused, and the tape can leave a residue. Product Details: Dimensions: 2 inches x 30 yards | Material: Vinyl plastic with acrylic adhesive | Number of Windows: Not listed | Suggested Use: Indoor It’s also resistant to punctures, making it a durable choice. The tape is designed to come off without leaving residue and without damaging wood trim, but you may want to test a small spot just to be on the safe side. Applying the tape will also keep out pollution and dust, which keeps the inside of your home a little cleaner as well as a little warmer. Installing the tape is easy, as you apply it by simply pressing it onto your windows. However, those in northern climates with winter temperatures that dip well below zero for days at a time may want to choose a different option. The tape will block out temps as cold as -4☏. The clear material makes it easy to see through your windows, so you won’t have to deal with an obstructed view. Made of vinyl plastic with an acrylic adhesive, it’s designed to be applied to the inside of the window. If you’re not up for applying plastic film to your windows, you may want to consider this budget-friendly, transparent tape from ATack. ![]() The tape is rated for temperatures as low as -4☏, which may not be the best option for extra-cold winters. ![]() Product Details: Dimensions: 62 x 210 inches | Material: Plastic | Number of Windows: Five | Suggested Use: Indoor It is safe to use on painted or finished wood, aluminum, or vinyl. Keep in mind that it’s not recommended for use with plaster, drywall, or unfinished wood because the tape can pull up those surfaces. As long as you’re careful while removing the tape, you can store the kit to use again next year. The result is a surface so transparent you’ll have a clear view of falling snowflakes. If you forget to add an extra 2-inch allowance to each side, the plastic won’t extend far enough to reach the tape.Īfter the film is secure, shrink it with a hairdryer. To avoid any mishaps, follow the directions carefully before making your first cut. Not included in the kit are a measuring tape, scissors, a hairdryer, and a little patience (because it can be a little tricky to cut the film to size the first time). Each kit comes with enough material to cover five 3 x 5 windows, so your energy bill is sure to go down. The kit includes one durable 62 x 210 inches and 84-foot roll of mounting tape that is double-sided to make attaching it easy. Overall, the best window insulator kit is the Duck Brand Indoor Insulator Kit for its easy installation and its ability to be reused, which saves you money in both the short and long term. It can be a little tricky to figure out how to measure the correct dimensions. “When shopping for a window insulation kit, the only things you really need to be looking at is size, how you’ll use it, and its price,” says Andrew Dominguez, assistant manager at The Home Depot. But once you know what to look for, the job is a cinch. With so many variables, choosing the best window insulation kit can be overwhelming the first time. “This air barrier works well as insulation because it prevents cold air from entering while allowing sunlight in.” “Window insulation kits function by creating an air barrier between the interior living space and the window,” says Elias Benson of the Building Construction Technology Department at the New England Institute of Technology. They prevent the heat in your home from leaking out, which prevents your heating bill from skyrocketing. If you feel a draft, you can install one of these top window insulation kits in less than 30 minutes. As we brace for winter, you may be searching for ways to keep your home warm without breaking the bank. ![]()

![]() Maybe there’s something that could be done about this, but it may be complicated.įix #3: Or, to throw out a (possibly?) crazy idea, we go the other way around, and always primarily use DirectInput for all devices, and do the correlation the other way around - detect which XInput devices are correlated to DInput devices - and only ever use the data from the XInput APIs for overriding the trigger axis values (once correlated) and triggering rumble. The simple “disable XInput if more than 4 controllers” solution would not have this problem (except, perhaps when adding a 5th controller at run-time). When a player has 5 or more XInput devices plugged in and unplugs one, one of the extra DirectInput controllers will now be upgraded to XInput, and, I believe, there is no way for us to know which one, so we would need to do the correlation logic again whenever an XInput device is removed, and it will likely cause controllers to swap players. If we still have some virtual devices, after each joystick update in which relevant state changed, do a correlation check to see if any of the 5+ open DirectInput devices are definitively not correlated to an XInput device, and if so, swap them into one of the virtual devices, and emit their current state (presumably an axis change or button press that was used for correlation) as events.Open all XInput-capable DirectInput devices and XInput devices (either immediately, or when the user opens their first joystick), and keep them open (to keep a few bytes of state for correlation), though not emitting events unless they’ve been opened by the user. When updating the list of devices, if there are more than 4 DirectInput-visible XInput-capable devices, add some virtual “XInput Controller #5”, etc, devices. In order to do this within SDL, I would need to make the following changes: The way to do this is, when there are more than 4 devices, to correlate inputs between DirectInput and XInput devices to determine which DirectInput devices do not have a paired XInput device. These games usually use SDL directly, but apparently newer games (Super Bomberman R, for instance) are using SteamInput which is using SDL in XInput-mode, and not allowing more than 4 players by default (unless you use non-XInput-compatible controllers).įix #1: There’s a relatively simple, fool-proof solution - if, when iterating DirectInput controllers, more than 4 are found, disable XInput as if SDL_XINPUT_ENABLED=0 was set.įix #2: I’d rather get the best of both worlds though - XInput for the first 4 controllers, DirectInput for the rest. But, I’ve got a lot of games in my Steam library that don’t do that, and have to be coerced into supporting more than 4 XInput-capable devices by disabling XInput via DLL patches or environment variables. ![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously, any game can just disable XInput and, for the most part, things will just be better (especially on low-end systems where, at low framerates, the evented DirectInput will miss fewer button presses than the polling XInput) - unless they want to use both triggers at once or rumble. After seeing threads about people disabling Steam’s self-updating and replacing Steam’s SDL2.dll with versions with that have XInput disabled, in order to fix games that get artificially capped at 4 controllers, I think it’s time to fix SDL to support more than 4 XInput-capable controllers by default. ![]() ![]() Here you have to specify the functions used in your project to translate. ![]() ![]() So I'm coming hat in hand to ask if someone can help me through by explaining exactly why the Mega was known to have reset issues with the first revisions of the ethernet shield, so I can at least have an understanding of how the resets work. I've read this forum a tonne and reviewed every old post relating to W5100 and issues with reset routine on the Mega, and tested lots of theories. When I plug the red board back into my old prototype stripboard on the Nano, it works like a dream. I have tried to figure out exactly what caused it to work when it did, but it's seemingly random. I literally can't get the thing to ping from a remote machine, let alone get MQTT working. ![]() I've gone to the following lengths: replaced ethernet cable, pulled apart my prototype and started from scratch, stripped the sketch back to its minimum code just for Ethernet and MQTT, tested with Arduino sketch for web server (can't get even this to work), and experimented with delays in the setup routine and even manually resetting the ethernet board by wiring it up to a tie-high resistor and switch and setting up the sketch to wait for me to reset then initialise ethernet library. The problem seems to be related to the reset process, but it's intermittent and therefore hard to pin down. In short, randomly after some change I made it stopped - and I've thrown literally HOURS of testing at the problem but haven't gotten to the bottom of it. ![]() No overheating, no random crashing, and apparently full reliability. Using this procedure my sketch worked beautifully for a week. After some googling I removed the reset line from ethernet board to Arduino during upload, replaced it after upload finished, then hit the physical reset button on the Arduino. I started having problems uploading the sketch. When I ported over to the Mega 2560, it worked when I used the correct pins: Mega 50-52 for SPI and Mega 10 for chip select. It seems safe to say there are no electrical issues with the red ethernet board for this reason. The red ethernet board and Nano V3 still work a treat. (See attached image.) Previously I used this board with my MQTT project using the standard ethernet library and the knolleary Arduino Client for MQTT on a Nano V3. I'm using the W5100 "red" breakout board purchased on eBay with a Mega 2560. With a view to the above, please be kind and help me to explain it better if I didn't manage! I'll try to explain my problem properly, but I've been struggling so hard with it over the last week and I know I haven't actually fully understood the problem, let alone managed to work out how to start solving it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Playing the game wasn't as entertaining as character creation.
